Android buying decision and some questions

Hi all, I'm new to the boards but I have been browsing for a while for some info.

I am thinking of getting an android tablet mostly for reading PDFs, some light web browsing and video and a couple android apps.

My questions is what model would you all suggest for that purpose? Anyone have first hand experience? I see the specs, but I wonder about screen responsiveness and things like that.

Also, I know most come with 2.1 or 2.2... what are the chances these tablets could be rooted and upgraded to gingerbread when it comes out? Am I expecting to much?

I've been thinking about doing that too, but I'm a very impatient person

From what my Google-fu revealed, it looks like the rumors are that Gingerbread will be out before the end of the year. Probably around the Nov. time frame.

With the one person say Froyo was not made for tablets, I can't imagine they would be far off with something more appropriate...
