Apps that use usb probes or sensors?

Hello, I work for a school District that is now considering purchasing ipads or Android tablets for the next school year. Most likely a dozen or so labs of 30 each. What I am wondering is does anyone know of any apps that might also have external usb probes or sensors? What I am thinking of is for mostly science classes. Tempature probe, motion sensors, light sensors, etc etc. Some way to use the tablet as a data collection point.
