It is my experience that if you go with the resistive touch screen you won’t be able to use the tablet as long since they don’t make replacement screens for these devices as far as I know of. Those will pop and break first. For more information on the differences between Resistive Touch Screen or Capacitive Touch Screen check this Wikipedia article on it here:

Touchscreen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I also will go over some 7” and a couple of 8” tablets in another short features and specs shopping list. I hope that this has been useful notes, I transcribed my hand written notes for when I was shopping higher end tablets. The 7” tablets I have noted will mostly be budget ones, several models of Coby's, and other brands that have been spotted at Big Lots, and other places. Thanks to dansamy for suggesting I undertake the creation of this Features Shopping List I made up on many pages of a notebook. Feedback is welcome and I will post more soon. :)

This is awesome! I think making the others as additional posts in this thread and re-titling the thread to something like "Tablet Comparisons, current as of mm/dd/yy" would probably work.

I think it should be moved to the "Shopping" section of the forum ( Android Tablet Discussions ) and renamed from "Feature Shopping List" to "Features Of Some Popular Brand Name Tablets". That way folks looking for a tablet can quickly compare the ones listed in the thread. I'll do that for you now. If you disagree, we can change it later.

Thanks dansamy, it took a little while last night but I think it came out nicely and was well worth the effort. Next comes the 7" Tablets. Thanks for moving this here Spider, I wasn't sure exactly where to post it. I will gladly add the next installment later today if I can find the time to sit and write that is. ;)

For the Acer A500's, they are currently shipping with Android 3.2 (the ones I just got did not need to be updated). Also, the Thrive I got came with 3.1, but it had the 3.2 update available for download as soon as I turned it on. A nit picky thing that I have noticed with Android 3.2 (it has happened on the A500, Thrive, and Transformer that I have) is that from time to time if you attempt to navigate a bit too quick (such as clicking on a hyperlink, etc.), especially in the stock browser, the application will close and bring you to the home screen.

Thanks jseah, I have edited the entry on the Acer to reflect that change. I hope this listing of features can help some people who are still on the fence about which tablet will work best for their needs. :D

I appreciate the post stingray40, I am stunned it came without ports for HDMI and USB even. Wow, that's unreal to me, because that is what most people want, USB and HDMI ports....

Just added the VTAB1008 to the opening post. With it being the Woot Deal of the day I looked at the specs and wrote them down just because I am really enjoying the spec researching. :D

I did not realize that when buying this one, just thought it was the regular SYNET7LP model. I am hoping that I can buy some type of adapter to hook into the headphone jack that has a female USB port on the other end to allow me to connect to an external keyboard at some point.

I wonder if that is possible to hook up a keyboard through the headphone jack? Did you try to return it saying it was misleading as the website showed it as the model I listed above and there was NO Mention of a DS on the model# there? I am sorry that they even made a model without USB or HDMI, that's really bad. Especially when it's got NO bluetooth to make up for that lack of connectivity.

Great information! I came to this site to see if my ordered-and-paid-for-but-not-delivered-yet Acer A500 will be a good calendaring and email tool. (i need to think of it as a tool to justify it)
i think it will be very good based on perusing this forum.

I purchased the same one, unaware that there were no ports. I went back to Sears a couple weeks after the sale and checked and they still had the "DS" model in stock, but the funny thing is that the display model is the one with all the ports on the bottom of it.
