After playing with the Kindle Fire for about a week and a half, we came up with custom settings for the Kindle Fire that will enable you to make full use of the screen area of the Kindle Fire for video playback. Similar to Android Honeycomb tablets, the Kindle Fire also has a permanent grey bar. No, we didnt find a way to get rid of this bar, however, if you use any other conversion tool that offers support for the Kindle Fire, and you try and make your movies full-screen, you will always end up with black borders. Either on top and bottom, or worse, on the sides.
DVD Catalyst 4 (make sure to download the update to 4.1.2.0 to get the special Kindle Fire settings) is the only DVD and video conversion tool that takes this little menu bar into account for its conversions, enabling you to create video files that truly maximize your viewing experience on the Kindle Fire, even better than Amazon themselves.
One note beforehand. We have been providing access to converted versions of movie trailers for quite some time now. I do not have any issues regarding the sharing of these converted movie trailers, but unfortunately, we have noticed that some people use our work, and claim them as being their own. Because of this, we added a (very) small watermark at the bottom center of each of these videos. Of course, your own conversions with DVD Catalyst will not have these watermarks (unless you choose to enable them and use your own description)
As you can tell, when you actually watch it on your Kindle Fire, it is barely noticeable.
As mentioned, I used the new DVD Catalyst 4 update, version 4.1.2.0.
For the quality settings, I used the Amazon > Kindle Fire HQXT profile, however I did increase the video quality setting a bit:
* All that I changed in the profile was the video quality in Modify I set to 1650Kbps. All the other settings in the profile are set correctly by default.
In order to make the movies full-screen, the following additional change needs to be made as well:
*Tap on Global Settings on the top left.
*On the right, look for the Borders tab, and select it.
*Then enable the completely remove from device setting, the 4th one from the top.
And that is all. These changes will be remembered when you restart DVD Catalyst, and all your conversions from now on will be in full-screen.
