Google announced today that they have purchased the Food and Restaurant Review Service Zagat for an undisclosed amount. Zagat has been for sale since 2008 with no buyers, and it seems they have finally found a suitor that works.

What this means for Google Users isn't clear quite yet, but I would expect to start seeing some more direct integration with the already quite good restaurant listings in Google Maps. This also fits in nicely with Google's new strategic direction of more localized content services.

Look also for some new strategies to come in some form for deals since Google's bid to acquire Groupon earlier this year fell through. Perhaps we will see some additional linkages from Google+ or Latitude based on when users check-in to their favorite establishments.
