A couple of weeks after the Indonesian Android 2.2 update for the Huawei Ideos S7 was reported, the files have been leaked. They have been uploaded here by our members after a rather dramatic ordeal of getting the local service center to release the file. The update does have issues with some S7 variants released in international markets, so heed the warnings in the post carefully.

The update brings the improved performance of Android 2.2 and full Adobe Flash support. It has been reported to be at least mostly compatible with the S7-104 variant available at BestBuy, and various international variants similar to the target device.

The update may not be without its flaws, and has a regressing g-sensor bug. Since the bug existed in the Android 2.1 firmware with different resultant behavior, the update is not likely to deteriorate user experience. As this is an Android 2.2.2 build, the firmware can be rooted using psneuter only.

Huawei had originally targeted the update for March, and had withdrew commitment in most markets during the last week of March.

Huawei has not yet provided the associated source code for the updated firmware as required by the GPL, despite user requests for the release a couple of weeks ago.
