making android safe for users

Im farily new to Android , im trying to make a tablet "safe" for friends, ie so that they cant change the settings and keep phoning me up for help. are there any hot tips for restricting a user to using only the apps and functions that i want them to use

this can be done with some of the more advanced launchers (launcher pro), and some of the different ROMs (that allow for hiding apps). There is also the option of using an app such as Root Explorer and renaming the app itself from something like <appname>.apk to <appname>.bak, but that can cause issues for some apps as well as not being supported for others.
