Need help with dead Proscan PLT8031 tablet

My son has a Proscan PLT8031 tablet that stopped turning on not too long after he got it. We've tried everything we could think of to try and get it working. We've tried charging it with the wall adapter and the USB cable. The manual seems to suggest a firmware upgrade in this case, but I'm not sure how that's supposed to work when the device won't come on at all. Is there any hope for it?

Here, they also list access to a firmware update as well.
Is there a reset button on the rear panel by chance?
If there is, depress it and hold for 10 seconds to make sure the system restarts from factory conditions.

Make sure you can read a .PDF, as the manual is in that format.

I think I've seen a firmware update mentioned, but there's not really any way to install it since the tablet does not come on at all. It doesn't just not boot, it doesn't do anything at all. Yes, there is a reset button, but pressing and holding it doesn't do anything either.
