I recently joined this website, because I wanted to purchase a Tablet. Long story short, I had a NC and now have a rooted NC. AND I LOVE IT!!

I have been reading alot on this website, about Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb... I'm sure each one of these does something differently. My question is if I wanted to add one of these, which one would you recommend ? I have read quite a few problems on all 3 of these...but haven't read many on the one I have.

Would someone like to tell me the differences on all 3???

You need to read more.

http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...hiremod-nook-beta-2-themed-froyo-2-2-1-a.html Froyo 2.2
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...m-nookie-froyo-0-6-8-02-15-cwm-flashable.html GB-2.3
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...hiremod-nook-v5-1-oc-kernel-cm7-v21-base.html GB 2.3
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...droid-3-1-2-nook-color-gingerbread-2-3-a.html GB 2.3
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...lopment-release-03-11-2011-now-bluetooth.html GB-2.3
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...-v4-emmc-2nd-ed-flashable-zip-02-21-11-a.html Honeycomb-3.0

Out of all of these the only one that I wouldn't personally recommend is the Honecomb v3.0.

As I stated in the other thread you can easily burn any of the above to an SD card and boot from it to try it out for yourself without upsetting your current set-up.

But the best advice I can give you is read through the above threads and you will get a very good idea what works and what doesn't from one build to the next. After you read up if you have any issues or questions, as i said I'd be glad to help but one of the main tenets of this forum(and others as far as I can tell anyway) is that you need to do some of the leg-work/research on your own.

You need to ask yourself the question what I am going to use my NC for most; Word processing, Music, Video, Books(novel concept), web-surfing. Each ROM up the list adds functionality. This is info I have been trying to glean for quite some time and as it changes almost daily it is not cut and dried.

That's the problem.... I have read. But some of the explanations are rather deep for a newbie. Don't worry ... I won't ask again...

We r here if you have questions. The first thing you need to do before loading froyo, gb or hc is install clockwork recovery and successfully make a backup of your system. See the how to on clockwork in the technical section that rico wrote up.

Froyo will get rid of your internal memory completely and put a completely new OS (custom rom) on your device. All signs of nook interface will be gone as these are all ports from other devices right now. CM7, UD and phiremod all run pretty well though. You will need to install all your apps again.

Let us know which rom u want to install after u have successfully made a backup and we can help.

Rhonda, I think the problem is that you want an easy answer to a question that doesn't really lend itself to an easy answer and you are asking for recomendations based on opinions that wil vary widely depending on personal prefernce for a multitude of reasons. The simpliest answer is this:

If you want stock Nook Color functions stick to autonootered versions of 2.1. If you want flash, bluetooth and specfic apps that will only work on new versoins of android, choose one of the custom ROMs based on Android 2.2 or 2.3. If you want an preivew build of a tablet OS without full support then go with Honeycomb.

There is no magic bullet and for the most part you will not notice any differences between the interfaces of 2.2 or 2.3. both of which will still be very similar to 2.1 without the default Nook Color controls. The only one that will be noticably different is Honeycomb.

I hope that helps.

i guess i will try to share my experience + indicates additional feature i like, - indicates deficiency - hopefully others can chime in as well

assuming baseline is Stock NC rooter

CM7
+ bluetooth - big plus for me -lets me use bluetooth based gps (bought one for $35), bluetooth headset
+ streaming video / youtube
- streaming video / youtube - low frame rates still but plays smooth if you use a bluetooth stereo headset
+ community support / continous improvement
+ ease of upgrades

Honeycomb
+ tablet user interface
+ snappy performance
- not all apps work
- lots of force closes
- support is not as fast/robust as CM7

froyo .68 - will test it tonight
Update - installed
+ smooth youtube and flash playback
- no market/gmail/google maps installed
- no bluetooth

Rhonda Gingerbread and Honeycomb ROMS are not completely stable as of now.

I suggest you to go for Phiremod Beta which is based on Froyo.

Avi..... thank you! You always know how to explain things to me, which is really all I wanted!!!!

Sorry to interject again, but it is a good idea to make a backup through CWR before installing any rom if you haven't already
