At Google I/O 2014 we learned Google planned to introduce Android device screen mirroring to the Chromecast, a feature that exists in Android L but isnt working in the developer preview just yet. The good news is that the wait is over, as the feature is now rolling out in a new update to the Chromecast app.
Up until now, the Chromecast app has been of little use outside of initial setup of the device, but the new update brings the Cast Screen option to the navigation drawer. For those with a Nexus device, the setting will reportedly make its way to the quick settings menu as well.
For those that dont know, mirroring allows you to cast the content of your Android devices screen over to Googles media streamer, and should be compatible with any existing Android apps. At least for the moment, the beta casting feature only works with select Android 4.4.1+ devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10, Galaxy S4, GS5, and a few other popular devices from HTC, LG and Samsung.
The update to Chromecast 1.7 will rollout in stages, but well be sure to update this page if/when were able to get our hands on an APK.
