Organizing Data on the External Memory Card

Is there any advantage at the outset to organizing data into "folders" or some such on the MicroSD card or External Memory Card. If so, how would those of you with experience advise setting it up?

Android really messes your external card up by dropping in random files and folders. You are best off creating a unique folder name and working in there, such as "My Files"...
