SD card on update

Ok so my tablet is the only thing my memory card fits in. If I update and put the card in while my tablet is on can I remove the update file then?

That's actually what I did and it was fine, no worries.

I just renamed the folder so I could remember what was in it and it would be available easily if I decide to flash again.
I have a couple of different ROMs on the SD card. Each with a different file name. I can flash to any of them by
renaming the folder to dload.
