What's in a Name?

I'm new to the whole Androd world. Please, I understand version numbers (ie. 1.2.3). I don't understand all the different names Honeycomb, gingerbread, etc.
Can someone please let me know, I have version 2.3. What's the name for this one?

Android Version 2.3 is Gingerbread.
