i have a laptop so there is wifi but the problem is that the tablet cannot detect a wifi from a laptop

When you use Search Forum and the term "adhoc" you'll find this post - http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/sylvania-tablets/14386-sytabex7-2-2-wireless-woes.html#post86136 which includes the reference below to adding adhoc functionality.

One of the other files often associated with wifi issues is /system/bin/wpa_supplicant. In this thread they discuss replacing it with a patched version which also adds adhoc functionality Android Ad-hoc support hack/wpa_supplicant. However, this may introduce new issues when scanning. So if adhoc connections are not important, you may not want to try this potential fix.

I created a male to male (Type A) USB cable that I connected between my PC and tablet.

Worked great..just remember:

Black to black, red to red, green to green, white to white.

Edit: Oh, and you need to connect them with the tablet off, then boot the tablet while pressing the power button and menu button at the same time.
