I just received my Onda V712 tablet, and of course ran into all the problems in the existing threads.
After working most of the day, I was able to root the device and install Chrome (Google Play is next).
But, I also noticed that all communication is running through a proxy in China at IP address 203.208.46.120 .
That means that ALL communication out of this tablet is monitored.
Just as a test, I Googled "tiananmen square", and of course it returns an error, whereas on my other
tablets it works fine.
Of course, I reset my passwords as quickly as I discovered this.
Anybody been able to fix this?
Thanks.

Have you removed the chinese apps, did you just side-load chrome as you say google-play next? I no on the vi40 4.1.1 firmware there is a file in system/bin called systemC which collects data, you could check for that.

Thank you for the response.
It's a relief that it is Google China, but still I don't want everything running through
there.
I applied your root fix, but Chrome would not run, and Google Play Store would give
Server Error.
I have disabled the Chinese apps, although "ps" still shows processes running, even if
disabled, and even after a reboot.
How do I completely delete an app, since "Manage apps" only allows me to disable?
Did not find the /bin/systemC file you mentioned.

Use rootexplorer to go to system/app then find the app you want to remove and press and hold, a menu will pop up and choose to delete, i have a new test root, another member has just tried it and it worked on v712.
