Galaxy Tab has no phone?

I saw the other thread about no phone and am comfused as the dealers (att,vzw,tmob) seem to have this for sale with a contract or without. So if no phone then what is a need for a contract.

I understand they offer internet connection through GPRS. I am intending to buy one but, I am not willing to pay a mensual fee though I have wifi at home.

I dont see them selling very many with no phone service.

You could root it and install the phone app. It has been done on XDA already.

I installed Skype and it works great on either Wi-Fi or 3g. So no "phone" contract and good call quality over data!

the contract is so you get it cheaper because you sign two years of your life away with them they give you a discount
