Ok, my headphone jack still only put out sound from one side even after the update. So... I took the tablet apart and found that I needed to add a jumper wire on the back of the circuit board. My headphone jack now works, in stereo, and when I plug headphones in the external speaker turns off. When I remove the headphones it turns the external back on. The internal microphone still works. Don't know or care if an external one would.
Anyway... If you want to do this I am not responsible for any smoke, or fire you may let out of your tablet. If you break it, it's your fault. Be careful because the battery is hard wired and always hot. So don't short things on the main board.
