HELP hdmi port

I have the Acer Iconia tab a500.

I want to send video from my tab to the tv. I have teh hdmi cable. Bought a new one from comp usa this weekend.

I connect the cable and play the movie but nothing comes out. When I try to select the hdmi port on the tv it says nothing is connected.

So could I have a bad cable?
Bad hdmi port?
Something has to be turned on on the tablet?

I have googled the heck out of this and looked in the setting etc. nothing that says hdmi.

Also I called acer and they said this was out of scope of support that I and refered me to some other number and they wanted 150$ to support me. Not going to happen.

This is a function of the tablet so I wouldl expect them to support it.
I even truned ont eh media server sw to see if that was the issue.

anyone know how to get this to work?

so no one has gotten the hdmi port to work on the A500?

Ill call Acer again today and tell them i have a hdw issue and they need to prove to me it works.

So i finally got someone from Acer to talk to me and I figured this out. It looks like the push they did over the weekend caused many problem on the tablets. I had to reset back to factory to get this to work.

So I guess we have to wait fro someone to fix the fix for this os.
