I just bought my first tablet (Acer Aconia A500) and find it difficult to hold it
without a thumb or fingers wrapping around the screen. Anyone know of some
kind of sleeve or strap that wraps around the back so you can hold it comfortably
with one hand flat on the back?

You are holding it backwards.

Hold it with the screen facing you and your fingers will wrap around the back.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

I like the rooCASE leather cases, as I own one, but no strap on the back.

I think Targus might make a case with a string or strap but I'm not sure if it's intended for single hand holding or for closure.

Thanks. Since I posted the question I've been looking around and found a
nice summary of iPad solutions on CNET from Rick Broida:
How to hold an iPad comfortably in one hand | iPad Atlas - CNET Reviews
What I first envisioned when I posted was a cross between the "FreeOneHand"
and the "Pad Strap". The diagonal on the Acer is about 1/2" longer than the
iPad 2 so either should stretch that distance. Any other ideas?

Modification of an existing one might be in order.

Also, I don't see much like this out there, so you probably have a market if you develop one!

Thanks, but I've got more money than ambition :-) I'll just buy something and
modify it if I have to.

I've got the standard felt ACER pouch and this makes it easier to hold. then the lid that covers screen folds back to form a stand. Its quite comfortable.
