How to turn off display to save battery?

Is it possible to turn off a tablet's display only?

ie: if I'm using the youtube application only for audio or when I have a browser tab with audio embedded or flash.

This works when I'm hearing music or Pandora, else it just turns off both the display and audio when I push the power button.

Perhaps it's a dumb question buy I havent been able to figure it out. I'm using an Acer Iconia A500. I tried keeping pressed the power button but it does not show an option to just turn the display off.

Try <screen lock widget> from Android Market. It's working création on Myrtle Beach side.
