Rockchip RK2818 based devices are shipping this week. The main improvements over the previous generation RK2808 include Android 2.1 support and 256MB RAM. It still retains an outdated ARM9 architecture, incomplete 720p hardware decoding capability. User reviews are still pending.

Promotional retail pricing for the Apad iRobot shell RK2818 is 599 Chinese Yuan, which is a tad below $100. Expect to see devices shipping within the next couple of weeks.

As with the Rockchip RK2808, Ramos is releasing their own version of the RK2818 tablet in the Ramos W9, which looks to be retailing at $999 for the same internals but with better packaging and build quality.

The features do beat out the terrible but popular VIA WM8505 based tablets in the Eken M001 and Gome Flytouch. However, Telechips TCC8902 tablets are still better for only around $10-20 more. Look for the Rockchip RK2818 to take the low-end Android tablet market by storm. At $100US, it still packs a lot of features.
