Group aka android 2.2....recently samsung rolled out updates to 2.3 aka gingerbread

How recent was the roll out? I was playing with a friends SGT & it went into a software upgrade. I checked the OS when it finished it was still at 2.2. :-S.
Is there a manual download? If so, is it simple?

Just ead it off android central this past week. Unfortunately i dont have a link but it stated samsung is rolling it out
