Questions on my motivation....

So...my local Barnes and Noble has a tech meeting of sorts each Sunday at the store. The guy was telling me it was where people get together to look at and discuss questions and comments and stuff like that with their new nook colors. Well...here is my issue. I was thinking of swinging out there...just to see if there was anything cool that I was missing with my nook. The problem that I am having is trying to figure out if I really want to stop out there to learn...or do I want to stop out there with the hopes that someone gets to see my rooted nook and I get to talk about it. Hmmm. I am guessing it's probably more the second one than the first...but just not sure.

Ok ok ok...so let's just say it happens to be the second idea. Is that really a bad thing? Or do I just have too much free time?

Seems it would hurt and I'd say go for a little bit of both of your reasoning, but more of the second. :)

.... that's a little bit of why I take mine to work everyday.

Perfect! That's what I was looking for...just an inch of validation. You rock Rick!

It's a very, very interesting question. On the one hand, the hair on the back of my neck stands up when I read a user review, and the reviewer says "...and now my friends are totally jealous..." It just sounds so selfish and superficial.

AND YET...I know that feeling very well, cuz I get the same exact rush with something new and cool. In fact, airplanes are my favorite place to whip out my newest toy, and hope the guy next to me asks for a full rundown. I even want the guy who's listening in the row behind us to ask a question or two! :p So I am a hypocrite.

My only concern with the B&N scenario is if you get a corporate nazi who decides to freak everyone out and say something like "Sir, I hope you realize you've violated your warranty and usage terms. Everyone, this is a good example of how NOT to use your Nook."

I realize that would never happen, but I like worrying about s*** that never happens. I call it "preventative worrying." ;)

THAT is sooo true :D I travel a lot with work (one of the reasons I got the NC) and as soon as we're allowed I get the NC out just waiting for someone to ask about it (and they always do!)
Thanks Matt, I don't feel so nerdy now :D:D:D

I heard that B&N has undercover security that is looking for anyone with a rooted Nook. If they see you using one in their store, you are quietly escorted out of the room & interrogated! It's a bit heavy-handed, but B&N is just trying to maintain some control of their product. It's also said that they will offer to un-root your device & administer hypnosis that makes it impossible for you to ever use a rooted Nook. If you refuse, your Nook serial number is documented & stripped of it's warranty & shopping privileges. If you choose to keep your Nook rooted, they have the option of still using post hypnotic suggestion so you will puke uncontrollably whenever you try to use any non stock features. Knowing all this, I think I would keep mine rooted & just have a barf bag handy all the time.

Cheers,

Dammit kev, I saw the word "security" and my eyebrows went up 6"! But luckily I saw through your attempt to terrify me. ;)

I admit I'm pretty neurotic...BUT I've also heard discussions, not too far from this one, in terms of people taking their rooted Droid into a Verizon corporate store. I assume Verizon skips the hypnosis part...but some of the rest of your vision might be true! (And FYI I'm totally being facetious. Well, mostly anyway.)

Dammit! I believed the first three sentences. Luckily I kept reading before I made a complete idiot of myself. Kudos bugeyed ;)
