Am I able to store apps on the sd card? If not, then why is a micro sd card slot provided? Whats the point? Perhaps I should return my 8g for a 16g....?

The SD card is intended to store your "stuff". Pictures, videos, documents , movies, books, etc. You can store a lot of typical apps in the space required to store a movie.

First of all, if you have an 8 GB device, you do not have 8 GB of free space. You probably know that already. Apps do not typically take up a great deal of space so there is no real need to store them. A full length movie takes up about 2 GB, so you would definitely want to store those on you card.

My suggestion is, if you are happy with your tablet, use it and keep track of the available memory. Uninstall programs you have added but end up never using. 8 GB goes a long way. If you want to upgrade to more memory, there is certainly nothing wrong with that either.
