So it is now being reported in various circles that the Tegra 2 chipset is now the "design standard" for Honeycomb (the next major iteration of the Android OS). There is also some rumors out there that Honeycomb will be 2.4, and NOT 3.0, as it may now become the major enhancement release for Tablet support, but not a complete re-write required a change to version 3.0. Either way, it is looking likely that the Tegra 2 is better suited to handle the heavier load that Honeycomb will place on the processor when compared to Froyo and Gingerbread.

So what does all that mean? Well, NVIDIA was looking like it had made a huge error going down the Tegra 2 roadmap when they hitched on to the WinMo 7 gravy train, but now they might just be back on the rails with this announcement.

While most of this is based on rumors or speculation, it can be confirmed that Samsung has placed a significant order for the Tegra 2 processor even though V1 of the Galaxy runs on the Hummingbird. It is looking for the moment like the Galaxy 2 tablet WILL have the same core processor as the Viewsonic gTab.

Bottom line - good for all if we see this actually happen, LG and Motorola are already major partners to NVIDIA, would be great if Samsung joins as well
