unable to download

Hi, I have a google android tablet that is on version 1.9.88 (abit behind i think, but not even sure how to update) everytime i try to download an app from the app market i get a message saying "it appears you have lost your internet conection" and the app wont download!!! its driving me mental and i am close to binning the tablet if i cant sort this problem out, can anyone help me PLEASE.

1) are you sure you have a reliable internet connection, like can you use the browser for quite a few minutes
2) if you can download app "task killer" maybe you don't have enough memory

hi, thanks for the reply, i do appreciate it, yes my internet connection is reliable we run various games concoles and laptops wirelessly off it and have done for a while.
there is a 1gb memory card in the bottom of the tablet too, so i really cant understand it!
