Video not sharp

I put 5 movies on my Lepan II 4 of them are DVD rips and 1 is a Blue Ray rip all are MP4 and they all look the same yet when I watch the sample movie that they have on it it's HD quality any thoughts.

Maybe the movie "only" got shrunk down to non-HD.

If you convert to mp4 there has to be a significant quality loss.
