Apparently the free app of the day has been discontinued and replaced by a new app called "Amazon Underground".

Did a test download of one of the "really free" apps. No problems, but they don't sinc with the appstore.

Me too, but I'll probably get a lot more sleep now. The FAOTD was usually announced around 2:00 AM, and most times I stayed up to post it right away for the early birds.
