Importing contacts from Outlook into Sony S tablet

This is my first tablet. I have opened a Gmail account for email as per the instructions. Don't want to use Gmail for my email and have installed the email account from my current providor. How do I import my contacts to this account? I asked my internet providor who told me to ask the Sony dealer I purchased it from - surely not I said.

When I set up my MS exchange Server work acct, it asked me if I wanted to sync calendar and contacts. It brought them right in to native android apps. Not knowing what your email client is, you may be able to sync your email acct with Gmail acct then they will appear on the native apps.
