No Matches found in Android Market

My son has this (Chineese) 10" MID Android tablet. He forgot his his unlock pattern he pushed some buttons and wiped everything apparently. Now when you try to find anything, including updates. When it pulls up the Market screen it says no matches in the adnroid market, check spelling, etc. Is there anyway to fix it? I tried sending him an update via email but it won't open the attachment. It says error parsing the file.

Sounds like he did a factory reset, which really should not be a problem. At this point I would tell him he should try the combo he did again to complete wiping the tablet, then have him do the full setup wizards that should be built in. That may cure his problems and get him restarted. the fact that he can still access the network with the device means it is not a hopeless case, just needs to go step by step to get it all the way back.
