Push notification with Gmail through Email app

Hi everyone,

Just picked up my Tab yesterday (from Verizon). So far I'm very happy with it. But the Gmail app leaves a lot to be desired, in that it's not really tablet optimized.

I like the Email app, but it does not receive push notification when configured for Gmail. I tried configuring Gmail through an Exchange setup (as noted in the link below for iPhone, which works great), but I get a "cannot connect to server" error.

Set Up Your Apple Device for Google Sync : Mail, Calendar, & Contacts - Google Mobile Help

Has anyone found a solution to getting push email on the Email app?

Thanks!

I use a tab every day. It pushes my gmail app but pulls for the email app from Samsung.

I agree it should all push but it doesn't. Now what's funny is my exchange pushes directly to mr tablet natively. While my X has to use Touchdown to get full lush capabilities.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

Yeah, exactly. Exchange is a native "push" platform.

On iOS, they somehow allow Google Sync to push to an "Exchange" configured email account. Works great on my iPod Touch!

Really what is needed is a tablet-ized Gmail app.

Really? When I create that setup I get an error "Unable to connect server."

Can you confirm your settings?

When I view the account setup, I see

Domain\username
\<username>@gmail.com

Password
******

Exchange server
m.google.com

Use secure connection (checked)

Accept all SSL certificates (checked)

When you first create the ms exchange account, you leave the DOMAIN blank, correct?

If so, I don't see how your account settings show the Domain\username like this:
