Won A Tablet - Want to root/upgrade OS (it's slow - unresponsive) - SVP TPC7901

Hi all,

I won a SVP TPC7901 7'' inch mobile internet device. When the device boots it says INFOTMIC. The OS is Android and its very slow - I can't seem to get a lot of the apps to function well with the tablet. I am new to the Android environment. I have seen videos / articles on how to root Android phones and whatnot. So here's what I want to know.

Can I root this device? How? (please insert a hyperlink if you have one) I'd be better with a video but if your write-up is good I'm willing to try anything.
Can I Update the OS? Is there a faster OS? Is it the OS or just a bad product? I believe the processor is 1GHz

The SVP TPC7901 tablet is almost identical to the Sylvania SYNET7LP tablet. You can take a look at the Sylvania Tablets forum. There is a lot of information and should help to get you acquainted.
