Desktop mode in browser

I'm using both the stock browser and dolphin HD and neither one will switch to desktop mode.

Any thoughts or has anyone else run into this problem.

This is highly website specific. Some sites see that it is android and refuse to honor the desktop option.
You can try to change the browser string to suggest it is firefox or msie.
You can try Opera.
