Enspert E201 Looks Decent for 7-inch with Android 2.2 and Google Mobile Applications

The Enspert E201 Identity Tab 7-inch capacitive Korean tablet has largely gone unnoticed. Standard accessories include a slim carrying pouch, cleaning cloth, power adapter, USB cable and earphones. It can be ordered from J&R or Dynamism for $299USD. It was originally taking orders for $350USD. It has a Cortex A8 Samsung Hummingbird processor at 1GHz, which is sufficient to run Adobe Flash when coupled with Android 2.2. The new price tag makes it decent option.

ZDNet received a unit of the wifi-only Android 2.2 tablet. It would appear that there is some decent value to the device, particularly for its superior out-of-the-box experience with the inclusion of Google Mobile Applications such as Gmail and Google Market. It makes it an attractive option alongside the Archos 70 IT, doubling up on the RAM as well as shipping with a more usable camera in additional the the Google apps it ships with. The reviewer seemed to like the brushed aluminum finish of the E201 as well.

The Android 2.2 firmware build for the E201 was only just made available April 1. Enspert has been providing regular firmware updates for the device since Q4 last year. It was previously shipping with Android 2.1.

The main complaint the reviewer had for the device was the screen viewing angles and quality, which is actually on par with most 7-inch Android tablets. The device also runs a mainly vanilla build of Android 2.2, which may not be everyone's preference.

GPL kernel sources are available at Enspert's Korean support site, possibly making this a development friendly device as well, although this probably corresponds to the Android 2.1 firmware for the time being.

With the wifi only Galaxy coming out at $299, I don't see why anyone would opt for this.

The Galaxy Tab wifi is actually £299 in Europe, $399 in the US

More memory, better resolution, LED Flash and a possible upgrade to Honeycomb for an extra $50. I don't know why you would get this thing.

Same amount of RAM. The extra $50 is not something everyone can pay for.

Oh that's right, it's $349.. but yeah, with 32GB of storage, a 1024x600 res screen, LED flash, and a brand name, I really think Enspert's going to have a tough time. If someone is willing to spend $299, they will likely pinch for another $50 for the piece of mind, a better features of going with the Galaxy.
