LCD Density Change

No longer a "sticky". That's good there were getting to be too many of them.

I thought lcd_density was just icon size which was a non-issue for me since I use folders.
I did not see any need to change lcd_density until playing with tipstir's HCV9 ROM I saw how AndExplorer would display /sdcard without having to scroll. So I'm sold. Not having to scroll to get to sdcard is well worth the effort.

To make it easy I wrote a bash script to use in the terminal (Ubuntu-Linux). The script will:
Make a backup of the original build.prop on the Coby
Copy build.prop to PC's /tmp/
Ask the user to choose 240, 220, 200, 180 or 160 (defaults to 200)
Edit PC's /tmp/build.prop per user's choice
Copy edited build.prop back to the Coby.
Reboot the Coby so the change takes effect.

This makes editing on new ROMs I test very easy, no apps needed.

Since it's a script it was trivial to modify it to do the same tasks with heapsize. It's also easy for anyone else to edit. So for example they can use lcd_density of 193 if they want.

I posted the script in post #13 of

You can always do the drop in method and no need to use any update.zip. Just reboot and your done. Still everyone has there own way of doing things. 200 or 240 (really big) That was the issue in the 7005 I had everything was so huge!

Shown below MID7005 from Coby

I found the game "Fish Food" only works on 240 - anything else and the screen is garbage.
There may be other apps that are made for only one density.

Hi,

I've changed the LCD Density using the Droid Overclock APP. I've tried the 180, 200 and 220.

It really works, the icons get smaller, but the distance between them still the same as 240. It was useless, icons smaller but at the same distance as before, so I can't put more icons in the screen.

It's kind it have a grideline, tried to move the icons closer to other but it goes back to predefined position.

Anyone knows how to fix that?

I've used this app cause I couldin't install the aps...

thanks

I believe this is a function of the launcher app being used. Some allow setting the number of rows and columns on the screen. I know ADW launcher is one that lets you choose.

LauncherPro also lets you define columns & rows.
