Amazon is preparing to launch another attack against Apple’s iPad by releasing new Android tablets sometime in August or September. The company is thus planning to take advantage of the shopping boom usually triggered by Thanksgiving Day and winter holidays. Amazon has set a 4 million sales target for its upcoming tablets in 2011 alone.

Apparently, Texas Instruments will supply the processors and Wintek will provide Amazon with touch panels. Since Apple has recently launched its own cloud streaming service, Amazons is reportedly planning to offer streaming movies services for its tablets as well.

Amazon is determined to stick to the Kindle e-reader tradition and include this functionality in every tablet it manufactures. “We will always be very mindful that we will want a dedicated reading device”, Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO confirmed.

Apple has a loyal customer base who are willing to pay anything just to grab iOS products, hence the huge number of iTunes credit card users. Amazon has a solid customer base as well, and the company is counting on them to purchase its tablets. And they may well do so because they trust Amazon. ”Amazon also has consumer’s trust that has been built up over more than a decade of good service,” analyst Brian Blair of Wedge Partners stated.

Amazon may have exaggerated a bit when setting its sales target, according to Gene Munster, Piper Jaffray’s pessimistic analyst. He suggested that the company could only sell 2.4 million units in 2012. Amazon could endanger the market success of its Kindle handsets, as many possible customer could get confused and not buy e-readers anymore.
