Hi tipstir,
I have seen that you are giving a great help to all of us who are having problems with the ePads running with Android. Thanks so much. Really appreciate.
I recently bought a MID 7" ePad with VIA WM8505/533MHz, 256 MB RAM, 2 GB Flash.
When I start it, it shows me WMT 2.1.2_105 in the boot screen. When I talk to my supplier, he said it is running Android 2.1. However when I go to "About Device" Menu it shows me following information.
Firmware version: 1.6
Kernal version: 2.6.29-00236-g4f8dbbb-dirty
Build number: WMT2.1.2_105
Can you kindly clarify me the following issues I have.
1. I'm confused with the Android version I'm running on this device. Is it 2.1 as supplier say or is it 1.6 ?
2. What is this build number? I have seen that you also discussed quit a lot on that. According to my current understanding, it is the ROM firmware.
3. Since I have WMT2.1.2_105, do you recommend me to update to further WMT versions such as WM2.2 you published today.
4. With my current WMT 2.1.2_105, is it possible for me to update to Android 2.1 or 2.2 (frodo) OS ? If so, could you kindly provide me some guidance.
Thanks you very much in advance Sir!
Best Regards,
Neo

Thanks for the reply. My supplier told me this is Android 2.1 (I'm really worried now). Can you please tell me whether it is possible to update the Firmware Version (i.e.: Android Version) to 2.1 or higher (I would love if it is 2.2 Frodo) ?Don't get confuse, these are Android OS 1.6 (code name Donut) Only the builds number changes. Like your building something and you change only the build number. Same is the case here. But you can't use this custom build number. You need WMT2.1.2 I have about 4 of those but working on 100% rooted version. But once it gets tested then I'll release it. Again don't use this rom
