It's the same version you already have. Check Settings-> About tablet->System update (or something close to that). If it says you are up-to-date, don't worry about it. If it offers you an update, let us know.

It doesn't say I'm up to date. It says there's an update, but it keeps crapping out on the download (gets to at most like 16-17%, some times less before the network connection closes). The names are different. I have A2109A_A411_03_12_121107_US
And this one is A2109A_A411_03_13_121126_277_WW_F

Bit of a newbie here. Only got my A2109 last week. I tried to download the update using the regular system updater in settings, but it keeps crapping out (network connection closed). So now I'm using the link above to download it to my computer instead. But it's sloooow (I'm even using wget!). On the off chance I'm still alive when it finishes,

1. Is the update worth installing? I've been having a little crashiness.
2. After I copy the file to the tablet, how do I install it? Please note this is my first tablet, and I'm not very familiar with Android, so basic instructions are helpful.

I'm just using regular old Lenovo-flavored Jelly Bean 4.1.1 that the tablet came with. It's not rooted or anything (that's the next step!).

{Also, I've been reading through this forum a bit, and I'm super impressed with the hacking/dev [the IdeaTab is not one of the more popular tablets], and also how helpful people are.}

Welcome to the community :)

Your tablet seems to have come with the latest update possible, good for you. So it seems like you are already enjoying the best of JB tablet OS. Hopefully there is not any "crashiness" on your tablet because I have had mine since June and did not have a single crash. I have updated through the normal channels and put mcl630 rom on the tablet and all have been crash free enjoyable experience. If you do have any issues let us know.

As far as how to install a rom on your tablet please search this forum and the one over at IdeaPad / IdeaTab Slate Tablets - Lenovo Community

Ok. I'm with you now. I have the file. Once I get to my computer, I'll share it and send you the link.

Here we go: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxNORR1JMMjZeWg1bHEtMUVzb3M. Download that to your sdcard, reboot into recovery mode (volume up + power at the same time), wipe your Dalvik cache (under Advanced), and then install the ROM zip. It should be pretty straightforward.

ahh ok, misunderstood the numbers. Maybe you are in another place than me, so my latest update is A2109A_A411_03_13_121126.US. I think you can tell from this that it is Android JB 4.1.1 and it was built or released on 11/26/20012.
So you apparently have a version released on 11/07/2012.

That makes sense. Thanks for the file+instructions, Flo! It worked. Hopefully, this solves the infrequent crashes, otherwise, I'll have to take it back to the store :?.

Were you having reboots or freezes?

@Flowrider, I noticed the update as well. I was using MCL rom when I did the update. I then switched to the stock JB rom and the update went away. Im pretty sure there is a flag or a file that was changed or is missing in MCL rom that causes the tablet to think there is a update. From what I have read im almost 100% certain this is the case seeing how the update rom is almost identical to the stock rom. (atleast thats what others have said)

Sounds right alot of use were using the custom rom, and got the update notice.

could be the build.prop diff showed this change in build.prop, I will test later and see if making this change in custom rom build.prop stops the update notice.

< ro.build.display.id=JRO03R.A2109A_A411_03_13_121126
< ro.build.version.incremental=A2109A_A411_03_13_121126

Have you been having any stability problems? I was getting resets before I "updated".

Ok making the changes on build.prop stops the update notice.

Code:
ro.build.display.id=JRO03R.A2109A_A411_03_13_121126
ro.build.version.incremental=A2109A_A411_03_13_121126

So if you want to use custom rom replace

ro.build.display.id=JRO03R.A2109A_03_13_121126_MCL0201
ro.build.version.incremental=MCL0201

with

Code:
ro.build.display.id=JRO03R.A2109A_A411_03_13_121126
ro.build.version.incremental=A2109A_A411_03_13_121126

then use adb

adb shell

rm -r /cache/*
rm -r /data/dalvik-cache/*
reboot

on reboot check for updates says system is currently up to date.

even though I am still running custom rom, so best if devs don't modify build.prop

Nice job :cool:.

I actually have the file on my Drive. It's not shared because the MD5 is the same. Different filename, but what's really odd is that I was offered the OTA update and no one else was. I'd love to explain that. All I can say is that I believe I was running MCL ROM 201. Regarding the reboots, I've reinstalled everything from Titanium Backup, so that's not different. I don't have any answers basically.

Don't use the OTA updates when running my MCL roms, the version numbers confuse Lenovo's OTA server, and patch updates won't apply over MCL anyways.

Where did you get 03_12_121107 ? I've never seen that before. The first (and only) JB version I've seen is 03_13_121126.
