Unfortunately, you're stuck. I'd take it back and get a new one.

Regarding the Play Store, you don't install the Google apps in a Google apps package like ordinary apps. There simply are too many file dependencies for such an approach to succeed. It's only natural that the Play Store would force close on you, since it needs a few other APKs (e.g. GoogleServicesFramework.apk) and library files to function properly.

Open up the 20120429 package in WinRAR or 7-Zip, delete the "Optional" directory and save the zip file. WinRAR/7-Zip will then recreate the zip file, which can then be installed using ClockworkMod.

P.S. I had Facetime confused with Facelock, which is a different feature.

Thanks Traveller. I deleted the "optional" folder as suggested.. but it seems the outcome remains the same. This is the new recovery log.

You are running out of space on the tablet, which should not be happening. Have you done a factory reset on this tablet? If not, do so then boot the tablet normally. Enter USB Debugging mode on the tablet, run the following commands, and post the output?

Code:
adb shell
su
busybox df -h

The output will tell me what I need to know.

Here's the sample output of my 9742.

Code:

so this is disk used in the tablet after a factory reset --not even rooted (btw. is it normal to have a "superuser" app before rooting the thing?)

busybox df -h

/dev/block/vold/93:81 4.5G 2.1M 4.5G 0% /mnt/secure/asec

I created a new dump fresh from factory reset and sdcard wipe out, so this dump should be as good as new
9740_stock_dump.rar

Then I installed CWM again, and I did backup.

Should I give it a try to install gapps again? wich one? with or without optional folder?

you are maxed out, are you sure this is stock?

it should be stock, unless the factory reset is not doing what it is supposed to do. is there any way to check that?

However, the superuser app does remain even after the factory reset, which seems a bit surprising to me. Is that normal?

Is there some folder that shouldn't be there that I can look for and see if the factory reset is not actually resetting?

factory reset only means /data and /cache are removed, any file put in system remains in system.

I see... then maybe I do have some stuff under /system that shouldn't be there. Maybe something from a previous gapps flash?

I am making you a system with root and gapps that will fit nicely on your tablet with a little room to spare.

download http://www.mediafire.com/?26ubxucyhsn2h5f

place on root micro sdcard

boot into cw recovery

factory reset

install Coby_9740_root_gapps.zip

then reboot.

micro sdcard is a removable sdcard

if you don't have one then just place on /sdcard/

doesn't really matter as long as you can navigate to it from recovery.

since it appeared that I cannot navigate to my internat sdcard from recovery (It only gives the option of "clockworkmod/" althoug there is not such folder in /sdcard/".

so I mounted the file in a micro sdcard, did factory reset from cw recovery and install zip from sdcard.

"System 7
Installation aborted"·

also, for some reason it seems that my "home" button is not working anymore and I have to go back with arrow back from any application...

This is starting to scare me... any ideas please?!?!?
